PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Maggie’s Centre HK and AIA Hong Kong Charity Golf Day -
a Resounding Success, Raising $1.5 Million

Hong Kong, March 10, 2025 – Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre Hong Kong (Maggie’s Centre) is thrilled to announce that its recent Charity Golf Day, proudly sponsored by AIA Hong Kong, was a tremendous success, raising an impressive HK$1.5 million. This marks the 7th consecutive year that AIA Hong Kong has taken on the title sponsorship. The event is in association with the prestigious The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, which is sponsoring the green fees and food & beverage services, ensuring a wonderful experience for all participants.

This year, the Charity Golf Day brought together 26 teams for a day of golfing, networking and joining forces to support those affected by cancer. Dr. the Hon Leong Che-hung GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Maggie’s Centre was pleased to announce that  Maggie’s Centre provided services for more than 30,000 visits in 2024, the highest number we have ever reached, indicating an increasing demand for cancer care services. Therefore, heartfelt thanks to all sponsors and participants of this event for their steadfast support over the years, enabling Maggie's Centre to expand its free and holistic cancer support services, empowering patients and their families to live with, live through and live beyond cancer.

On the event day, we were honored to have Prof. Chung-mau Lo, BBS, JP, Secretary for Health of the HKSAR Government; Ms. Bonnie Tse, Chief Executive Officer, Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Limited, an AIA Company; Mr. Elmer Cheng, Golf Committee Member, The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club; Dr. Ronald Lu, Chairman of Maggie’s Charity Golf Day Organising Committee and Dr. the Hon Leong Che-hung GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Maggie’s Centre, as the guests of honor, all joining hands to support those affected by cancer.

Prof. Chung-mau Lo praised the services of Maggie’s Centre during the Tee-off Ceremony: “Cancer treatment goes beyond the physical medication; it requires holistic and psychosocial support. Maggie’s Centre is here to provide this vital care. With your support, we can continue to ensure that no one faces cancer alone, especially as new treatments, like the recently announced drugs for advanced lung cancer, bring hope to so many.”

We would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ronald Lu as the Chairman of Maggie’s Charity Golf Day Organising Committee, with Mr. Stanley Sun as Vice Chairman, other committee members include Mr. Adrian Lee, Mr. Andrew Lawson, Mrs. Audry Ai Morrow, Mr. Elmer Cheng, Mr. Mark Chan, Mr. Peter Brannan, Ms. Phyllis Tang, and Honorary Advisor Mr. David Hui for their leadership in organising the event, allowing it to run smoothly, and congratulates all the winners of the Charity Golf Tournament.

For over a decade, Maggie’s Centre has relied on the generosity of the community to provide over 230,000 times of services, helping cancer patients navigate their journey and rebuild hope. With an aging and expanding population, an anticipated rise in cancer cases is expected in the near future. In 2022, Hong Kong recorded 35,373 new cancer cases, showing an increasing trend in overall cancer incidence, especially among women over the past few years. These trends indicate a growing need for the support that Maggie’s provides. We look forward to continuing its mission of providing essential support to those affected by cancer, and events like the Charity Golf Day are pivotal in making that possible.
